Plantar warts arise from contact with a particular strain of human papillomavirus (HPV) that enters the bloodstream through breaks in the skin. In most cases, antibodies kill the virus before anything happens. However, if the antibodies are not killed, warts can form.

The HPV can thrive in environments that are warm and moist, like a shower floor or pool area. And picking them up is as easy as walking on them. This is how plantar warts begin. Once you have one, there are many ways it can spread. Plantar warts can spread on their own into what are called clusters. These clusters can grow to be up to an inch in circumference. You can be the culprit of spreading warts through the simple actions of scratching or touching the wart.

There are some precautions you can take to steer clear of plantar warts. One way is to utilize the use of flip-flops in places like public showers, swimming pools, locker rooms and so on. Also, if you get a plantar wart, it is best to seek professional help before it spreads.
